Jenny has a B.A. in history and women’s studies from Oberlin College in Ohio.  She has worked as an early childhood literacy advocate, as well as an ESL teacher for organizations in Montana and Oregon.  Jenny joined MIS in 2006.

Itzel is originally from Mexico. She has broad international experience working with children in Spain, Latin America and Africa. Itzel holds a Post Graduate Degree in Education and Prevention of Gender Violence from the University of Salamanca, Spain and a Juris Doctor of Law degree from the National Autonomous University of Mexico.

Penelope is originally from Bogota, Colombia and has travelled extensively through Latin America performing and producing educational and community theatre about cultural diversity and ecology. She earned her M.F.A. in the Creative Pulse Arts and Education Graduate Program at the University of Montana. She worked for MIS in the past as both preschool and fine arts teacher.

Adriana has a B.A. in Social Work with a minor in Human and Family Development, Early Intervention. She is a Colombian native and brings a lifetime of Spanish language and Colombian culture to MIS’s youngest students.  Adriana has been teaching at MIS since 2007.

John taught most recently in Mexico at the Jesuit University of Guadalajara. He has broad professional teaching experience working with children in immersion and bilingual K-12 settings in New York City and Pocatello, Idaho. John holds a M.A. degree in Spanish and Education from the City University of New York, Hunter College and a Bachelor’s degree in Spanish from Idaho State University.

Jenny came to Missoula from Bolivia where she received her degree and certification in Elementary Education.  She taught first grade for seven years prior to moving to the United States in 2000.  She has taught at MIS since 2002.

Rocío is a native of Ecuador, but her international experience extends throughout Europe and South America.  Rocío has a B.A. from La Universidad Equinoccial in Quito, Ecuador and from Evergreen College in Olympia, WA.  She has taught at MIS since 2005.


 

In Second and Third Grade, MIS students begin to receive a portion (20%) of their classroom instruction in English and the rest of their day in Spanish.

Born and raised in Tuta, Colombia, Patricia has a B.A. in Spanish and English language from La Universidad Pedagogica y Tecnologica de Colombia.  She also completed her M.A. in Linguistics at University of Montana.  She taught English in Colombia for seven years prior to coming to MIS in 2002.

Lynn is a Montana native.  She came to MIS in 2007 after seven years of teaching in Mexico.  She received a B.A. in Elementary Education from Concordia College and an M.A. in Education from Mexico City’s Alliant International University.

Gillian has a B.A.'s from Santa Clara University in English and Theatre/Dance.  She has fourteen years of teaching experience as well as international experience throughout the Spanish speaking world in Europe and the Americas.


 

In fourth and fifth grade, students spend half of the instructional day in English and half in Spanish.

Jessica has taught at MIS as both the 4/5 preschool teacher and PE teacher.  She came to MIS with a BA in Environmental Education from Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington and a Master’s in Elementary Education from the University of Montana.  She completed her teaching internship in the 4th grade at Lewis & Clark Elementary in Missoula.

Ted is an Idaho native with both a B.A. and an M.A. in teaching from Evergreen College in Olympia, WA. Ted brings extensive international experience to his classroom.  He is part of partnership that owns 2700 acres of tropical rainforest in Bolivia that is held for ecological and educational use.

Ryder joins MIS from the Nakornpayap International School, located in Chiang Mai, Thailand where he taught classes in mathematics, social studies, business, and economics. Before Thailand, Ryder worked in the Teton County School District in Jackson Hole, Wyoming and well as at the Kodaikanal International School.

Karim joined MIS in the fall of 2008. Karim was born and raised in Peru. She graduated from Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania with Highest Honors. She holds a degree in Education and Spanish Literature. She has been involved in teaching for over 10 years in a variety of settings.

Helena joined MIS in the fall of 2008.  Helena is a bilingual German/American who spent a large part of her childhood in both countries.  She is a graduate of the Munich International School in Germany with an IB Diploma.   She completed her undergraduate work in Environmental Analysis at Pomona College in California and her M.A. in Education at the University of Montana.

 

Students receive regular instruction from our Specialists in Physical Education, Music, Art, Library and Technology each week.

Christian has a BA in History and a BS in Sociology from Oklahoma State University.  He received his teacher’s certification in Texas.  He returns to MIS as PE teacher. 

Laura Bovard

Laura is the parent of a 2008 MIS alumna.  She received a B.S. in Business Administration and International Studies with a minor in Spanish from Iowa State University. She spent a study semester abroad in Valencia, Spain.

Stacy Ohrt-Billingslea Music

Stacy brings a wealth of music and performing arts knowledge to MIS.  She completed her MFA in Acting from the University of Montana and her BA at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. There she studied music, focusing on percussion with an emphasis in piano and mallet instruments.

Feather comes to MIS with a Bachelors of Science in Art Education from Towson University in Baltimore, MD and a M.F.A. in Integrated Arts in Education, The Creative Pulse, from the University of Montana. Feather is an award-winning teacher and artist who came to MIS in the fall of 2007.
