MI CASA ES TU CASA- Building a new Home for MIS

MIS is moving to a new home! We are right now in the process of designing a school for the future where students today, as well as future generations of Missoula’s youth can learn and grow into the adults that we want them to be – that the world needs them to be.

MIS owns a 4 acre site where we will build our new home. It is centrally located in downtown Missoula, within the McCormick Park neighborhood. The location has all of the features that MIS stakeholders identified as critical to a new, healthy, energetic learning environment. With 4 acres, there is ample space for an innovative educational facility, an athletic and community center to share with the greater Missoula community and abundant green space for outdoor play. There is easy access to biking corridors, trails, parks, bus routes, downtown amenities, and the University of Montana. It is also tucked away in an established neighborhood where our students can feel safe and at home.

MIS is collaborating with community partners to design indoor recreation facilities and community cultural spaces that will give MIS students and the Missoula community opportunities beyond their wildest dreams. As we build these facilities, MIS is seeking revenue-generating partnerships that will benefit the community. There is critical, documented need for indoor recreation facilities for uses including soccer, lacrosse, basketball, climbing, and other recreational uses. Existing facility usage in Missoula is beyond capacity. Additionally, both the school community and the greater Missoula community are in need of affordable and flexible gathering spaces for a diverse array of community uses, including a commercial kitchen and spaces for performances, concerts, presentations, ceremonies, and celebrations.

To meet these ambitious plans, MIS has launched a capital campaign of $7,000,000 to fulfill the first phase by constructing a new school.  The campaign will seek private gifts from individuals, foundations, and corporations with a goal of campaign completion by Summer 2017, a year ahead of the opening of the school in Fall 2018.  In the meantime, we will finalize our partnerships with the community for the facilities that will be shared with the community.
