Mandarin Chinese Club

NEW CLUB – Starts April 2

MIS is proud to present a new language club at our school this spring! Chunze Lai and her assistant Elizabeth Paich will be working with younger children on the foundations of the Chinese language. Reading and writing will both be introduced as your child enters into new language exploration.

Students are welcome to choose from Monday or Fridays, but it is highly suggested a student sign up for both days as Mandarin is a very difficult language to remember with only one day a week of practice.

Meet Chunze Lai,

ChunzeNi Hao! (Hello!) My name is Chunze Lai and I will be the lead teacher for the Mandarin Chinese Club.
I was born in a small town in Sichuan Province of Mainland China. I spent 18 years full of happiness and joy in my hometown before I was admitted to a top university in China. After graduating with honor from college, I came to the U.S. to pursue my PhD degree.

While I was in graduate school, I got an opportunity to volunteer to teach at the Minnesota Chinese Academy.
After the addition of two sweet girls in my family, my experience of teaching Chinese has become more enriched. I am proud of myself being their first educator of the Chinese language, and more, the bridge between the eastern and western cultures. I moved to Missoula with my family in 2015 and had enjoyed every moment of my life in this beautiful town. I am excited about this opportunity at the Missoula International School and cannot wait to share my experience with these lovely kids.

Spanish SAT Club

Are you ready to test you Spanish capabilities? Ready to take the Spanish SAT?

Missoula International School is here to help you take your Spanish abilities to the next level with the Spanish SAT Club!

At this Club, Kristen Joerns will deliver SAT Preparatory material and hone your Spanish skills!

What is the Spanish SAT subject test?

Meet Kirsten Joerns,

Hola!  My name is Kirsten Joerns, and I am the new teacher for the Spanish SAT preparatory class. I was born in Mexico City, but I grew up in Cali, Colombia, where I attended a bilingual school for sixteen years. My mother is from California and my father is from Cali, so growing up my younger sister and I were exposed to both the American culture and the Colombian culture. We were the only family on the block that celebrated all the Colombian holidays along with Thanksgiving and the 4th of July. Through travel, I have experienced other countries, such as the Dominican Republic, Brazil, Venezuela, and Mexico. This introduced me to the many different Spanish dialects and cultures within Latin America.

I moved to Missoula, Montana in 2009 to start my college career, which took a few twists and turns along the way until I decided education was what I wanted to do. This made my mother, who is also a teacher, very happy. Through this experience, I have gained additional experience teaching Spanish to students that are beginners as well as those who have had a few years practice. I am excited to have been offered the opportunity to work with the SAT preparatory class and sharing my experiences.
