Window Into the Classroom: Development Team
Becky (Left Photo) & Lisa (Right Photo)
Our annual art show is next week, how does our annual fund enhance the arts in our school?
Lisa: The annual fund supports the arts at MIS by providing funding for things like materials used for props, technology used to record or produce performances, supporting the various specialists who organize/lead projects, and professional development education for our fine teachers. (To name just a few things.)
What makes my job fun?
Becky: I love celebrating when we reach a milestone in our Hike to the Top! Annual Fund. You’ll often find me dancing when this happens. Also, I love going into classrooms and talking to the students about fundraising events and awarding prizes. It’s so great to get the kids excited about the Annual Fund and the process. After all, we do it for them!
Lisa: What makes my job fun is seeing our parents and kids enjoy the development activities. Elk Spotting was a lot of fun and we plan to do that next winter. We are also trying something new in a couple weeks-the MIS RUNdraiser and hope our kids and parents will come out for a really fun morning.
When you aren’t helping us raise money, what do you like to do in your free time?
Becky: I like to play Catan with my husband. We also like to ride bikes around town and talk walks by the river. I’m looking forward to warm weather so I can get out in the garden.
Lisa: I spend as much free time as I can in the Bitterroot hiking. I’ve also recently taken up trail running. I love gravel road cycling. I am committed to preserving and creating natural habitat and my back yard is full of native plants to provide food for insects – like bees and butterflies, and other bugs and many different kinds of birds. Yesterday I spotted my first Yellow Finch (they come every summer), and currently have a group of White Crowned Sparrows who delight in scratching around my garden for things to eat.
How does being on the development team shape your view of our school’s mission?
Becky: What we do in the development office helps brings the mission and the vision of MIS alive. Great teachers, staff, families, and a supportive community are a huge part of what makes MIS a great school, and a healthy Annual Fund makes their ideas and dreams come true.
Lisa: I have learned a great deal about MIS in the past two years. My goal is to create programs and activities that not only raise money for the school, but that are aligned with the school’s mission and culture. We have a very outgoing, curious, and enthusiastic learner community.
After our Hike to the Top, what can we look forward to next year? What about Spring Fling dates?
Next year’s theme is still under wraps. We won’t announce until next fall, but it will be very MIS…The Hike to the Top has been very successful and I’d like to extend my thanks to everyone who has supported and participated in the “Hike,” these past 9 months! Spring Fling 2019 will be held on April 3, 2019.
