Missoula International School
We are a Spanish immersion, International Baccalaureate® (IB) school for children aged preschool to 8th grade in Missoula, Montana. We take children on a journey to become bilingual, curious, principled and open-minded thinkers. Our multiage classrooms are full of life with engaged, collaborative and enthusiastic learners, while our low teacher-to-student ratio meets each child where they are in their learning journey.
We support each child in a stimulating environment that fosters creativity, social and emotional skills, and academics that prepare children for the world ahead.
They are encouraged to put their knowledge into action with various projects, service work, presentations and other applications in the real world.
MIS is an authorized International Baccalaureate® World School in both the Primary Years Programme (PYP) and the Middle Years Programme (MYP).
We are the only school in Montana’s history to receive this full authorization - and we’re a little proud of that!

At MIS, children develop their academic, social, and emotional skills through Spanish as a second language. We view the ongoing language development of a student as the shared responsibility of teachers, parents and children. A successful student will participate fully with confidence and enthusiasm!
The MIS immersion experience not only enhances the development of the student’s first language, but has cognitive, social, and long-term benefits.
Bilingual individuals have been shown to process their environment with a global perspective, a deeper understanding, more empathy, and often demonstrate better conflict management skills.
Global Perspective
As students journey through their education at MIS, they become prepared for the their future lives as a globally-minded individual.
MIS teachers use a curiosity-driven approach to encourage children to engage, explore, and be inquisitive. The students reflect upon what they learn, to gain deeper understanding in this safe, nurturing, and individualized environment.
By 8th grade, children have become confident communicators in two languages with a strong sense of identity and cultural awareness that fosters their recognition and development of universal human values.
International Baccalaureate® World School
The International Baccalaureate® (IB) program goes hand-in-hand with Spanish immersion. Through dynamic units of inquiry, as well as student action and reflection, children develop the approaches to learning they need - for both academic and personal success. Children are encourage to think critically and challenge what they read, hear, and see.
The IB has designed a framework inspired by its vision of a globally-minded citizens. These are characteristics that translate into a set of lifelong values and attitudes called the IB learner profile. The IB values are: inquirers, knowledgeable, thinkers, communicators, principled, open-minded, caring, risk-takers, balanced, and reflective.
